Lake Status Update:

Lake Open for the Season
Just in time for the nice weather this week, the lake is now open for the season! The green flags are up at both beaches. The boat kiosks will open on the May long weekend for boat rentals. If you are bringing your own boat or equipment into the lake, please read the information on Whirling Disease.

Whirling Disease
Whirling disease is caused by a parasite and affects salmonid fish including trout. It can be transmitted through spores that attach to equipment used for swimming, paddling, boating and fishing. While there are no health concerns for people from the disease, it has the potential to wipe out the trout population in the lake.
Help prevent the spread of Whirling disease into our lake! While Whirling Disease has not been detected in Mahogany Lake, it has been detected in the Bow River watershed. Please be diligent about cleaning your equipment between bodies of water.
Clean and inspect your boat and all equipment that has been in contact with water. This includes boats, boots, waders, PFDs and swimming floats. Remove mud, sand and plant materials. Rinse, scrub or pressure wash your boat and equipment using hot water if possible (90 degrees C or hotter).
Drain water from your boat and equipment before leaving the shoreline.
Dry your boat and equipment completely between trips and allow a minimum of 24 hours to air dry before entering new waters. Leave compartments open on boats and equipment. Sponge out standing water.

Blue Water, Green Earth Day

Blue Water, Green Earth Day will be held June 3, 2017 at the West Beach from 9am to 4pm. This is an event in which scuba divers from Adventures in Scuba will volunteer their time to help clean our lake. The divers will retrieve debris from the lake, and volunteers on paddle boards and kayaks will haul to the shore where volunteers will place in a dumpster. The waste removed from the lake will be disposed of by our gracious community partners, Hopewell. Please come out and get involved and help us keep Mahogany a great place to live! There will be morning and afternoon shifts available. Volunteers must register in advance, and lunch will be provided. Volunteers from Mahogany’s Fishing Committee will also be providing an opportunity to learn about identification and proper handling of fish. In addition to the lake clean up we are promoting a community area clean up. These areas include the wetlands, parks, and boulevards in Mahogany. Community clean up kits will be available at the Beach Club starting May 27 and at the West Beach the morning of June 3.

For residents wishing to do some spring cleaning of their own home, the Copperfield-Mahogany Community Association (C-MCA) will be hosting a spring cleaning event on Sunday, May 28th. Located in Copperfield, at 6 Copperstone Way S.E. this event will run from 9am to 2pm. This site will accept yard waste, recyclables, electronics, and garbage.
